Maintaining strength and mobility as you age
The movement habits that protect independence for decades, not just years.

Muscle mass and bone density naturally decline with age, but the rate of that decline is significantly shaped by activity. Regular resistance movement — even bodyweight exercises done at home — meaningfully slows the process.
The most valuable exercises tend to mirror everyday movement: sitting and standing from a chair, carrying groceries, reaching overhead. Practicing these patterns directly, rather than only unrelated gym exercises, has an outsized effect on staying independent.
Two to three short sessions a week focused on strength and balance is a realistic, sustainable target for most people, and the benefits compound significantly over years.
